Introduction and Background of Telegram
Telegram is a freeware, cross-platform, cloud-based instant messaging (IM) software and application service. The service also provides end-to-end encrypted video calling,VoIP, file sharing and several other features. It was initially launched for iOS on 14 August 2013 and Android in October 2013. The application servers of Telegram are distributed worldwide to decrease data load, while the operational center is currently based in Dubai.Various Telegram client apps are available for desktop and mobile platforms including official apps for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux, as well as for the now-discontinued Windows Phone. There is also an official web interface and numerous unofficial clients that make use of Telegram’s protocol. All of Telegram’s official apps are open source.
Telegram is messenger app which is similar to the WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, WeChat,QQ mobile, Snapchat, Viber and Discord.
In messenger WhatsApp is on top with 1600 millions users (according to statistics data of most popular globalmobile messenger apps as of July 20019, based on number of monthly active users (in millions). With 1300millions active users Facebook Messenger was on second number after WhatsApp. WeChat was at 3rd number with 1112 millions active users and QQ Mobile was able to get 823millions active users. Snapchat, Viber, Discord and Telegram was almost similar with 294,260,250 and 200 millionuser respectively.
How is Telegram better than WhatsApp
Unlimited server storage
Telegram provides unlimited storage. Means all your text messages, images media files & documents will be saved on their cloud. You can log out and log in any number of times from any number of devices simultaneously without losing any data, you don’t need to worry about backup & restore. You can view the active sessions and see on which devices are you logged in now. Thereby you can download any file any time anywhere.
2. Media compression
Users can choose whether to compress the image and video or send the uncompressed version.
3. Group member number capacity
A normal group capacity in Telegram is 200. But when this is reached the Group transforms to a Super Group with a capacity of 5000. (A Super Group has some more features than a Normal Group)
4. Username feature
You can communicate with anyone on telegram even if you don’t have the contact number of others. This ensures the privacy of the user’s contact number.
5. Channels
A channel is somewhat similar to groups, which can accommodate an unlimited number of members. The creator of the channel can decide who can post and other members can view the posts.
6 Multi-platform support
Telegram is available for Android, ios, windows phone, windows pc, Mac os, Linux os and even through any browser.
7. Secret chat
Secret chat is a kind of end to end encrypted chat in which one can set self-destruct timer. The messages will be automatically deleted when the timer hits. It is possibly not able to hack in any way.
8. Bots
It is a piece of program which is based on AI and machine learning at a small level. It can perform various tasks. For example, an image bot can fetch images from the name.
There are multiple types of bots. Popular bots are Image bot, sticker bot, gif bot.
9. Voice calls
The latest version of telegram supports voice calls.
10. Sends any kind of file
Users can send any kind of file through Telegram. WhatsApp limits video, images & document type files. This is not nice for advanced users.
11. Multiple sessions
Users on telegram can log in on multiple devices at the same time and able to receive messages on all devices.
They can remember their sessions on even browsers too. This is a cool feature.
Pros of WhatsApp
1. Voice & video calls
Unlike Telegram WhatsApp supports both voice and video calls. If you have a strong mobile internet connection, then you will get an awesome quality of calling. It takes low data usage for calling someone. So it is a very good point about WhatsApp.
2. Delivery and read notification.
WhatsApp informs the sender about the delivery and reads the status of the other user in a timely manner. It is a super cool feature.
3. End to end encryption everywhere.
WhatsApp uses end to end encryption everywhere. Telegram uses it only for secret chat.
As per my experience, Telegram is faster than WhatsApp, many features and great updates regularly. so I love it more than WhatsApp. Assume a friend of mine sends a pervy pic to me(which is very rare since not many use it ) I can download it and watch and yet not having to save it in the gallery, thus reducing the danger of others finding it on my mobile.
There are many features in whatsapp which are not in telegram at present voice & video calls and status( as status are very popular in india) telegram should immediate update this kind of feature so they can be stable in messenger market with whatsapp and others.
Design Problem
Importance of video call
Video calls, 50 years in the making
It all started with the Picturephone, released in 1964 by Bell Labs (now known as AT&T). It was such an interesting novelty that it was debuted at the New York World’s Fair, and received a lot of attention when it was shown to waiting crowds. During the fair, the Picturephone was considered a modern marvel in that it allowed the user to see the person on the other end while speaking. For a short time, it drew a lot of praise for its quality and experience, but never took off due to its expense.
It would be a while before the technology was feasible for business use, and it didn’t really take hold until the 2000s, when high-definition signals were adapted for teleconferencing use. High definition greatly improved visual fidelity, making face to face teleconferencing much like a face-to-face conversation in person.
The power of video calls
Teleconferencing does things that traditional communications cannot. While some executives may hold firm on the idea of meeting people in person, there are plenty of reasons why such thinking is growing in rarity. Video calls are no longer a novelty that only a select few can afford. They are now a practical option for any business that prioritizes cost effectiveness and communication.
Video call is becoming popular and needful things in current situations messenger without video call is useless, to be in current market of social media and messenger telegram should update application with new feature of video call.
1. Status Features
Telegram Status is a status update that disappears after 24 hours of you uploading it. You can share photos, videos, text, links, and GIFs. If you know how to use Instagram Stories, you’ll feel right at home.
It is also similar toWhatsApp’sstatus that allows you to share text, photo, video, and GIF updates that disappear after 24 hours. In order to send and receive status updates to andfrom your contacts, you and your contacts must have each other’s phone numbers saved in your phones’ address books.
By default, Status will only be activated between two users who have each other’s contact details saved in their respective address books. If you do not have someone’s number saved in your contacts, they can’t see your Status message.
2. Telegram Reels.
Telegram Reels: a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. Reels invites you to create fun videos to share with your friends or anyone on Instagram. Record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools.

Reels is similar to original app “ Tok-tok ”which is really successful app in many country and this is trend in new generation this is best way to be in market of social media users like new features of many applications and they just switched to new apps.
3. Shortcut to videos
Telegram is too simple because you need to find a contact for a video call, and you need to open a chat first, so we can find a video call alternative. It’s rough and it’s time to take the process.

After open contact we need to click on three dots:
After that we can do video call to the person, this is the problem in design for video call that I want to change, and I have selected the WhatsApp design for that new feature in telegram as many people are using WhatsApp messenger app and that is user friendly.
So, this is three basic changes I decided to change in current design of Telegram to make is more easy to use and user friendly. I have tried to change all three features ( shortcut for video call, New status features and Reel ).
Basic design
This is a simple template where I want to develop some of the functionality and design of the telegram messenger program. To start with the Menu Icon, I want to enhance the menu to set up directly, and also some other stuff that render the simple telegram program, like I’m going to add status and name the home page on the top.There is also a new function called reels, which is put on the right side of the bottom that is clickable and takes the user to the reels tab.
The simple template is a skeleton of new added keys that will also represent new keys which will be added to the home page to take the user to a new telegram feature, including status, call, reels and a new route to setting.
Both three keys that add a new telegram function to begin with the status key that is located at the middle of the top of the application are text and the user can enjoy the status feature by clicking on that text (status). Next to the status text, I put CALL text that can also be tapped and take the user to the call or video call tab, where the user can directly check for a contact and make a video call to another user.Reels is a sepreted key because it is a new function and it was very important to have the key illuminated so that the user can make full use of the new stuff.
After all the basic concept and concept was ready, I decided to start designing with some new keys and enhancements, and I added 6 pages to demonstrate the purpus design and how the telegram messenger program would enhance the design with some new ideas and functions.
New Design
Status:
To begin with, new status feature I have placed status work on the top to go directly on status window where user can do share text, photo, video, and GIF updates that disappear after 24 hours. In order to send and receive status updates to andfrom your contacts, you and your contacts must have each other’s phone numbers saved in your phones’ address books.
By default, Status will only be activated between two users who have each other’s contact details saved in their respective address books. If you do not have someone’s number saved in your contacts, they can’t see your Status message.
Home Page
The highlighted word “Status “ is directly key to Status page where user can create new status. In Figma I have put Text as Status and also give prototype (Instructions Tap > to iphon11 Pro Max -4) new page that named iphon 11 Pro Max — 4 is page that shows new feature of status in telegram application.

Status page is new created page that will display after clicking Status keyword on home page of telegram. This page show image of person clicking picture of something that is introducing new feature of telegram.
Video Call

Telegram Reels
New icon on bottom right side is directly key to reels page where user can enjoy new feature of Telegram reels. In Figma I have put icon with Rand also give prototype (Instructions Tap > to iphon11 Pro Max -6) new page that named iphon 11 Pro Max — 6 is page that shows new feature of telegram reels in telegram application.
Reels page is new created page that will display after clicking R icon on the right side on home page of telegram. This page show image of person clicking picture of something that is introducing new feature of telegram.
